A man lives on the 25th floor of a tall apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator all the way down to the lobby and goes to work. In the evening, when he comes back, if there is someone else in the elevator, he takes it all the way up to the 25th floor. But if he is alone, he takes the elevator to the 12th floor and walks the rest of the way up the stairs. Why?
